Baseball Game Preview: Fike Demons vs. Beddingfield Bruins

The Fike Demons will head out to challenge the Beddingfield Bruins at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Fike didn't have quite enough to beat C.B. Aycock and fell 4-3. The Demons haven't had much luck with the Golden Falcons recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Connor Spencer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Fike saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Ferrell, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. CJ Summerlin was another, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Beddingfield came into Thursday's match having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over Eastern Wayne on Thursday.

Ashton Wilson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jamir Jones, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Fernando Abazan, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-13. As for Fike, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

Fike took their win against Beddingfield when the teams last played back in March of 2016 by a conclusive 8-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Demons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
