Softball Game Preview: Mercy Bears vs. El Camino Colts

The Mercy Bears will square off against the El Camino Colts at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mercy has four straight victories, El Camino has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mercy and South San Francisco meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Bears walked away with a 16-11 win over the Warriors.

The team relied heavily on McKenna Fua, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Aveline Anderson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Fua wasn't the only one making solid contact: Mercy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for the Bears: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 12.

El Camino might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 18-2 to Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Mercy now has a winning record of 7-6. As for El Camino, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
