Football Recap: Grady Swango and Tyre J Jefferies Secure Win for Cox

Cox and Salem pushed the score to 49-35 the last time they played Salem, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Falcons' defense stepped up to hand the Sundevils a 10-0 shutout. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Sundevils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Cox was led to victory by Tyre J Jefferies and Grady Swango. J Jefferies rushed for 153 yards and one score, while Swango rushed for 71 yards. J Jefferies really tore up the turf during one magnificent 72-yard run.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cox was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 256 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 80.6 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five matchups they've averaged 186.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Cox's defense and their 3.5 sacks. Leading the way was Izaque Tomaz with two. Jiwan Mack was another major factor on D, picking up 0.5 sacks and making 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Cox's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Salem, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-3.
