Recap: Monticello Mustangs vs. Western Albemarle Warriors
After a string of six wins, the Monticello Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 53-32 walloping at the hands of Western Albemarle. Monticello has struggled against Western Albemarle recently, as their game on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Monticello lost, one person who can't be blamed is Samantha Shifflett. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with five rebounds. The contest was Shifflett's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Marisa Dyer, who scored two points along with five blocks and four steals.
Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Western Albemarle, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monticello will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Albemarle at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Western Albemarle, they will face off against Charlottesville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Charlottesville is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
