The La Marque Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Sealy Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
On Friday, La Marque made easy work of Fort Bend Willowridge and carried off a 16-1 victory.
The team relied heavily on Jaylyn Perry, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Katherine Salazar also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
La Marque was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .900. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Sealy entered their tilt with Royal on Friday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Falcons a 21-0 shutout. Give the Tigers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's sixth straight shutout.
Sealy got a massive performance out of Avery Grigar, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Grigar has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kara Kram13, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Sealy pushed their record up to 18-5 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for La Marque, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-16.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. La Marque hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Sealy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
La Marque might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Sealy when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
