Softball Recap: Walton Has No Trouble Against Ponce De Leon

Walton lost to Ponce De Leon back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Braves put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 7-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Braves, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Raina Pitts made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Holden, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Walton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Walton's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Ponce De Leon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Looking ahead, Walton will face off against Freeport at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ponce De Leon, they will challenge Graceville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.5 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of.
