Oakwood extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping them up to 15-9. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the North Vermillion Falcons 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Comets have posted since April 6th.
Irene Rangel made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Hanner, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Emberlyn Schull was another key player, earning two runs and two stolen bases.
Oakwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since April 6th.
As for North Vermillion, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10. They haven't had much luck with Oakwood recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Like Oakwood, North Vermillion also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Perez. She struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Perez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Perez wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ava Jumps, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Coming up, Oakwood will face off against Armstrong at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for North Vermillion, they will host Bismarck-Henning at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
