Softball Recap: Hazleton Area's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Hazleton Area's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They blew past the Wyoming Valley West Spartans 11-3. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Isabella Almeida spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kayla Lagowy was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kristina Kupsho, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hazleton Area kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Hazleton Area's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Wyoming Valley West, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Hazleton Area has already played their next matchup, a 16-5 defeat against Tunkhannock on the 5th. As for Wyoming Valley West, they will host Dallas at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mountaineers will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
