Basketball Game Preview: Ellet Orangemen vs. Coventry Comets

The Ellet Orangemen just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Coventry Comets at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

If Ellet beats Coventry with 72 points on Saturday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Ellet breezed by Springfield to the tune of 72-18 on Friday. That 54 point margin sets a new team best for the Orangemen this season.

Meanwhile, Coventry had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.8 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 74-42 victory over the Ravens. With the Comets ahead 39-12 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Ellet better focus on containing Kameryn Kennerly and Reggie Edwards as the pair were huge in Coventry's win. Kennerly went 10 for 19 on his way to 27 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals, while Edwards dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 boards. Kennerly's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Meinen, who posted 13 points.

Coventry smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups.

The win made it two in a row for Ellet and bumps their season record up to 3-4. As for Coventry, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Ellet won a contest that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in February of 2023, slipping by Coventry 55-54. Will Ellet repeat their success, or does Coventry have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
