Baseball Game Preview: St. James Sharks vs. York Cougars

The St. James Sharks will be taking part in a tournament against the York Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

St. James blew Socastee out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Socastee got their revenge. The Sharks fell just short of the Braves by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Sharks have suffered since March 3rd.

St. James got a good showing from Frank Pepe, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

At the plate, St. James saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Harnish, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for York, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Northwestern 6-5. The victory was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

York got a big performance out of Lem Moss, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Moss has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Falls, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

York's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for St. James, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. James has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like York struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
