The Lake Station Edison Fighting Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Gary West Side Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lake Station Edison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Lake Station Edison took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Hammond Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Fighting Eagles won by a run and slipped past the Wolves 7-6. The victory was nothing new for the Fighting Eagles as they're now sitting on three straight.

Joaquin Hernandez made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hernandez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Lake Station Edison: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-12 otherwise.
In other batting news, Lake Station Edison let Kaylan Colon and Xavier Moore run wild. Colon went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run, while Moore went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Colon has posted since back in April. Gael Gutierrez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gary West Side, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over 21st Century Charter on Wednesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Gary West Side's hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
CyLas Walker was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with seven stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. King Cloma was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
Lake Station Edison pushed their record up to 8-12 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Gary West Side, the win snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 2-11 record.
Lake Station Edison took their victory against Gary West Side when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Fighting Eagles repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
