Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Jacob Gaines and Tyrus Reel Lead East Poinsett County to Victory

East Poinsett County won the last time they faced Cross County and things went their way on Wednesday too. The East Poinsett County Warriors strolled past the Cross County Thunderbirds with points to spare, taking the game 76-61. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Arkansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading East Poinsett County to victory were Tyrus Reel and Jacob Gaines. Reel dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards, while Gaines dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, Reel is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Quincy Perry, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

East Poinsett County pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points per game. As for Cross County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Poinsett County will challenge Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. East Poinsett County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Cross County, they will square off against Marmaduke at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cross County is facing Marmaduke at the right time seeing as Marmaduke is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
