Preview: Elgin Owls vs. Midwest City Bombers

The Elgin Owls will head out on the road to face off against the Midwest City Bombers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Elgin sitting on nine straight wins and Midwest City on three.

Elgin put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past MacArthur, posting a 62-14 victory at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 55-0.

Elgin's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Lund, who rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also caught a touchdown. Lund hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for eight straight games. Ritson Meyer also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, even though Noble scored an imposing 34 points last Friday, Midwest City still came out on top. Midwest City walked away with a 42-34 win over Noble.

Jahhim Mahmoud was a one-man wrecking crew for Midwest City as he rushed for 236 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. La'Siera Laviolette was another major influence, as he rushed for 61 yards and ran in a TD.

Elgin's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Midwest City, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.

Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Elgin has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 278.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Midwest City struggles in that department as they've been even better at 284.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Elgin couldn't quite finish off Midwest City in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 and fell 23-21. Can Elgin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
