Softball Recap: Augusta Comes Up Short

Augusta fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Independence/Gilmanton on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indees by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Beavers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Brooklyn Krueger spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Augusta saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rilee Bethke, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Augusta moved to 17-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Independence/Gilmanton, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-7.

Coming up, Augusta will take on Stanley-Boyd at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Orioles' pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so the Beavers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Independence/Gilmanton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
