Softball Game Preview: Abington Heights Comets vs. Scranton Prep Cavaliers

Abington Heights has gone 9-1 against Scranton Prep recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Comets will welcome the Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. Abington Heights is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Abington Heights needed a bit of extra time to put away Valley View. They had just enough and edged out the Cougars 6-5. That's two games straight that the Comets have won by just one run.

Laurenp Stalica spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Isabella DeRiggi was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Adrianna Condrad was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

North Pocono hit Scranton Prep with a eight-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cavaliers lost 12-2 to the Trojans.

Abigail Wilce made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Abington Heights' win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Scranton Prep, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Abington Heights skirted past Scranton Prep 2-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
