Baseball Recap: Maize Beats Maize South for Their Third Straight Victory

Maize waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Maize South Mavericks, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted against the Mavericks since April 26, 2022.

Maize got a great performance from Gavin Short as he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Short a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sam Soderstrom, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Drake Blasi, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Maize's record now sits at 6-3. As for Maize South, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3-1.

Looking ahead, Maize will take on Andover at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Maize South, they will face off against Hutchinson on Tuesday.
