Preview: Bloomfield Bobcats vs. Gallup Bengals
Bloomfield is 0-10 against Gallup since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Bloomfield Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Gallup Bengals at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Bloomfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Bloomfield came up short against Hot Springs and fell 47-36.
Despite their defeat, Bloomfield saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Xavier Abernathy, who scored six points along with five rebounds and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Florez, who scored six points along with five assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Gallup scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They walked away with an 83-75 victory over Portales. The victory was all the more spectacular given Gallup's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Portales is ranked 35th).
Bloomfield has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Gallup, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.
Bloomfield came up short against Gallup in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 68-63. Can Bloomfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
