Baseball Game Preview: Clay County Tigers vs. Knox Central Panthers

Clay County is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Knox Central is on an eight-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Tigers will host the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Clay County's victory against Hazard wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 3-2 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since May 6, 2025.

Meanwhile, Knox Central was able to grind out a solid victory over McCreary Central on Thursday, taking the game 11-6.

Noah Gray and Jathan Collins did most of the damage at the plate: Gray went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Collins went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI Collins has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Engle, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Knox Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Knox Central's win bumped their record up to 23-6. As for Clay County, their victory bumped their record up to 18-14.
