The Lockhart Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Weiss Wolves at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lockhart has given up an average of 37.2 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Last Friday, Lockhart took a blow against Hays, falling 53-22.
Despite the loss, Lockhart got top-tier performance from Kaidyn Brite, who rushed for 186 yards and one score while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Brite really tore up the turf during one magnificent 91-yard run.
Meanwhile, Weiss came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 58.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They breezed past the Hawks to the tune of 50-8. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Hawks are ranked 390th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Weiss found their leader in sophomore Jaxon Schad, who threw for 345 yards and five TDs while completing 73.1% of his passes, and also rushed for 34 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Schad is crushing it when it comes to passing touchdowns: he's passed for at least three every time he's taken the field this season. Jordan Ibn Anderson-El was Schad's top target, picking up 143 receiving yards and three scores.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Weiss proved: they limited Hays to a paltry 1.7 yards per carry. The Wolves didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.5.
Lockhart's defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Weiss, their record is now 6-1.
The upcoming matchup will be a clash of competing strengths. Lockhart has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 157.2 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Weiss has preferred to attack from the air: they average 326.4 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Thursday? There's only one way to find out.
Lockhart took a serious blow against Weiss in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 42-0. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
