Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Wins Going Away Against Northridge

After only one run in their last matchup, Mt. Vernon made sure to put some runs up on the board against Northridge on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets blew past the Vikings 12-6. The Yellowjackets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Caden Thiebert made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1. Those runs marked the first that he scored this season.

In other batting news, Mt. Vernon got a massive performance out of Carter Castlemen, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave Castlemen a new career-high. Zac Clow also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Mt. Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Mt. Vernon moved to 2-3 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Northridge, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Coming up, Mt. Vernon will head out on the road to face off against Watkins Memorial at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Northridge, they will be playing at home against Newark Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Green Wave's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
