Football Recap: Coal City Comes Up Short

Coal City and Montini Catholic squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Coal City had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a 35-0 loss at the hands of the Broncos. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Coalers were not able to get on the board.

Montini Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Israel Abrams, who threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in one score on the ground. Abrams has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Montini Catholic also got a significant boost from Charles Flowers, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 102 yards.

Coal City's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Montini Catholic, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.

Coal City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Montini Catholic, they will take on Morris at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
