Softball Recap: Kankakee Valley Takes a Loss

Highland hit Kankakee Valley with a five-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Kougars fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 9-8. The Kougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Kankakee Valley saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mallorie Rose, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That triple was Rose's first of the season. Madalynn Hemphill was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Kankakee Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Highland, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.

Coming up, Kankakee Valley is taking a road trip to challenge Boone Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Highland, they will take on Whiting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Oilers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
