Basketball Recap: Cypress Bay Takes a Loss

Cypress Bay was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-43 heartbreaker at the hands of the Taravella Trojans. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Lightning came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Trojans are ranked 269th).

Taravella's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nick Florea led the charge by putting up 14 points and three steals. Florea is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Arriaga, who posted 11 points.

Cypress Bay's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Taravella, they pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

When Cypress Bay and Taravella next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Cypress Bay will try to stop Western's five-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Taravella will try to stop Coral Glades' four-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
