Softball Recap: Make It Seven in a Row for Desoto Central

DeSoto Central waltzed into their contest on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They never let the Oxford Chargers get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. Considering the Jaguars have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Makayla Jamison made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Londen Armstrong, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Buck, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

DeSoto Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oxford only posted a batting average of .000.

DeSoto Central's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Oxford, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. DeSoto Central will welcome Lake Cormorant at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Oxford, they will be playing at home against Mantachie at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
