Preview: Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders vs. Bonita Vista Barons
Mater Dei Catholic is 9-1 against Bonita Vista since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders on the road again and play against the Bonita Vista Barons at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th.
Mater Dei Catholic struggled with assists on Wednesday (Otay Ranch had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mater Dei Catholic took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Otay Ranch. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mater Dei Catholic came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Otay Ranch is ranked 439th).
The losing side was boosted by Maseyo Elliott, who scored 16 points along with two steals. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Wiles, who scored ten points.
Bonita Vista posted their biggest victory since December 8, 2023 on Tuesday. They blew past Christian 70-46. 70 seems to be a good number for Bonita Vista as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Mater Dei Catholic dropped their record down to 12-11 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Bonita Vista, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-11.
Mater Dei Catholic was able to grind out a solid win over Bonita Vista in their previous meeting on January 10th, winning 82-69. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mater Dei Catholic since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
