Basketball Recap: Wessington Springs Takes Down Castlewood in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Wessington Springs had no trouble coming through when it counted. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 49-48 victory over the Castlewood Warriors. The win was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won three contests in a row.

Despite the defeat, Castlewood had strong showings from Ava Ruml, who en route to 18 points in addition to seven rebounds and four blocks, and Sophia Kudrna, who posted 20 points and five boards. Kudrna has become a key player for Castlewood: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least 15 points, but 6-12 otherwise.

Wessington Springs' victory bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Castlewood, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Wessington Springs will square off against Deubrook at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Castlewood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
