Softball Preview: Cave Spring Knights vs. Blacksburg Bruins

Cave Spring has been on the road for five straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Blacksburg Bruins at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams have allowed few runs on average, (Cave Spring: 3.4, Blacksburg: 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Everything went Cave Spring's way against Christiansburg on Tuesday as Cave Spring made off with an 11-4 win. Cave Spring's victory was all the more impressive since Christiansburg was averaging only 3.4 runs allowed on the season.

Sophia Peters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in five consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Cave Spring got a massive performance out of Abby Bradberry, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Bradberry has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Ella Bishop was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

Meanwhile, Blacksburg entered their tilt with Lord Botetourt with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Cavaliers on Monday.

Evelyn Rhoads made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rhoads was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and a stolen base.
