Baseball Recap: Acalanes Dons vs. Antioch Panthers

Acalanes put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They skirted past the Antioch Panthers 6-4. This was payback for Acalanes, who suffered a 2-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Acalanes got a great performance from Branson Smith as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (he also only allowed one walk). Smith has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits every time he's pitched this season. Jake Colaco relieved him and did a solid job, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (he also didn't allow any walks).

On the hitting side, James Stadt was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Everett Glass, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

On Antioch's side, Logan Dawson put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Dawson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Cristian Bajjalieha made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with three RBI and a triple.

Even though they lost, Antioch didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with seven strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Acalanes only tossed three.

Acalanes' victory bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Antioch, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Acalanes will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Northgate at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Acalanes is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Antioch, they will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Armijo at 4:00 p.m.
