Baseball Game Preview: Fernley Vaqueros vs. Truckee Wolverines

Fernley is 2-8 against Truckee since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Vaqueros will square off against the Wolverines at 8:30 a.m. Fernley will be strutting in after a win while Truckee will be coming in after a defeat.

Fernley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Elko with a sharp 18-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vaqueros.

Nikko Pryor was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Pryor was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Juliot, who went 3-for-6 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Fernley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-16-1 when he doesn't). Joseph Perry was another key player, going 2-for-6 with four runs.

Fernley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Truckee came up short against Churchill County on Friday and fell 6-2. The Wolverines haven't had much luck with the Greenwave recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Truckee's loss dropped their record down to 19-10. As for Fernley, their record now sits at 13-16-1.

Fernley couldn't quite get it done against Truckee when the teams last played back in March of 2023 as they fell 9-6. Can the Vaqueros avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
