The Weiser Wolverines will face off against the Melba Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Weiser has ten straight victories, Melba has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Weiser is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against McCall-Donnelly on Wednesday as they made off with a 24-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Madi Janicek and Pieper Stromberg were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Janicek pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Stromberg pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. At bat, Janicek went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Stromberg went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs Stromberg has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Natalya Hoobery was a standout: she fired off three home runs, nine RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alli Navarrete, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-4.
Weiser kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Melba was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Plymouth. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly four runs.
Analyse Durham made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Jessie Rea was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Weiser's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Melba, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Melba's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Weiser has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Melba, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Weiser's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Weiser beat Melba 16-12 when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
