Softball Recap: Brighton Beats Alta for Their Third Straight Win

Brighton extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 8-12 in the process. They blew past the Alta Hawks 7-1. Considering the Bengals have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Alison Nikolaus made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Audrey Fleckenstein was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Peyten Bowers, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

As for Alta, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-14. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Alta's side, Danica Doyle was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Doyle is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Brighton will square off against rival Olympus at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Alta is set to face off against their familiar foe Highland at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
