Softball Recap: Western Branch Comes Up Short

Western Branch entered their game against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Bruins fell just short of the Saints by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bruins have suffered since May 22, 2024.

Haylee Bandura spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maddie Lemasters was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run.

Western Branch's loss dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 16-4.

Coming up, Western Branch will host King's Fork at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
