Volleyball Recap: Johnson Comes Up Short

Johnson was the 3-0 winner over Burbank when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Johnson fell just short of Burbank by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday.

Johnson started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-27, 25-14, 25-17, 18-16.

When it comes to explaining why Johnson lost, don't look at Jayden Yang. Despite the final result, he had six aces and five digs.

Yang wasn't the only good server: Johnson was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in three consecutive matches.

Sergio Pulido was nothing short of spectacular for Burbank: he had 15 digs and ten aces. Those 15 digs gave Pulido a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jonhabic Her, who had 18 assists and six aces.

Johnson's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2. As for Burbank, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Johnson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Armijo on the 14th. As for Burbank, they have also already played their next game, a 3-0 defeat against Florin on the 14th.
