Softball Game Preview: Barr-Reeve Vikings vs. Washington Hatchets

The Barr-Reeve Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Washington Hatchets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Barr-Reeve will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Barr-Reeve lost a heartbreaker the last time they played North Knox, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's game. The Vikings put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 10-0 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Vikings have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Washington came up short against South Spencer on Tuesday, falling 11-5.

Washington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katie Reed, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles. Ellycia Shartzer was another, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Barr-Reeve is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Washington, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Barr-Reeve took their victory against Washington when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
