Basketball Recap: Kings Mountain Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Kings Mountain had to start their season on the road on Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Cox Mill Chargers by a score of 68-65. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mountaineers have suffered since January 19th.

When it comes to explaining why Kings Mountain lost, don't look at Kee'Donn Linney. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 21 on his way to 29 points and seven rebounds. Christian Jarrett was another key player, putting up ten points and seven boards.

Cox Mill's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Teeshon Smith, who went 12 of 21 on his way to 27 points and eight rebounds. Smith is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Miller, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 18 points.

The win made it two in a row for Cox Mill and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Kings Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 69-65 loss against Lincolnton on the 6th. As for Cox Mill, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-51 defeat against Weddington on the 5th.
