League recap: Clinton tops Summerfield to extend winning streak

Clinton extended the longest winning streak in Tri-County this week by beating Summerfield, 37-14. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.

Britton-Macon/Deerfield moved up to 210 from 257 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Patriots were able to make the jump by besting Sand Creek 21-3.

TJ Baker put up the best numbers through the air as Clinton topped the Bulldogs. He finished with a total of five completions for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Baker's favorite target this week was Mathew Sexton, who caught one pass for 30 yards.

Krey Sweinhagen was the best wideout in the league this week as Britton-Macon/Deerfield defeated the Aggies. Sweinhagen racked up one reception for 45 yards. Kris Iott helped Britton-Macon/Deerfield's passing attack out by catching one ball for 14 yards.

Leighton Merritt was the most productive running back in Tri-County this week. He ran for 209 yards on 25 carries as DJ Lutz's team beat Sand Creek. Teammate Nate Hoffman added to the ground attack by rushing for 30 yards.

Scott Mcnitt's team's Baker and Cullen Zimmerman have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Baker has thrown for 957 yards this season, while Zimmerman, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 16 catches for 261 yards. Merritt from the Patriots leads the league in rushing with 1278 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Britton-Macon/Deerfield takes on Morenci. The Patriots are currently in third, while the Bulldogs are in fifth.

Whiteford took down Morenci 30-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
