Basketball Recap: Goliad Comes Up Short

Goliad was the 62-54 winner over Luling when they last played one another back in January of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. The Goliad Tigers fell 59-49 to the Luling Eagles on Thursday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Luling to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ayden Flores, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 21 points along with six boards and three steals. The match was Flores' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaime Gomez, who went 5 for 10 en route to 17 points and six rebounds.

Goliad now has a losing record at 11-12. As for Luling, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-13.

The future could be bright for both Goliad and Luling: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Goliad will try to hand Nixon-Smiley their third-straight loss when the two meet at 6:20 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Luling will look to extend Stockdale's seven-game losing streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
