Basketball Recap: Gretna Dragons vs. Omaha Central Eagles
The Gretna Dragons lost against the Omaha Central Eagles back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Gretna ended up on the wrong side of a tough 63-39 walloping at the hands of the Eagles. Gretna has not had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Gretna had strong showings from Maggie Miller, who scored ten points, and Ava Mcartor, who scored eight points.
Omaha Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aalaiya Davis led the charge by scoring ten points along with five rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Davis posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Lilliana Petersen, who scored 13 points along with four blocks.
Gretna has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Omaha Central, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gretna will face off against the Bears at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Bryan comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 11 points in their last 15 games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Omaha Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Tigers at 3:15 p.m. on February 3rd. Fremont has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 29.
