Baseball Game Preview: Braxton County Eagles vs. Ritchie County Rebels

The Braxton County Eagles will head out to square off against the Ritchie County Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Braxton County is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

On Saturday, Braxton County came up short against Roane County and fell 14-11. Even if the Eagles couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Matthew Miller put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Miller was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Braxton County is 3-1 when Miller posts two or more runs, but 0-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Braydon Fleming led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Kyler White was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Ritchie County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Doddridge County, falling 15-9.

Turner Shriver made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Garrett Flesher, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Braxton County's record is now 3-13. As for Ritchie County, their record now sits at 3-13-1.

Braxton County took their win against Ritchie County in their previous meeting back in May of 2018 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
