Baseball Game Preview: Rainier Mountaineers vs. Morton/White Pass Timberwolves

For the second straight game, Rainier will face off against Morton/White Pass. The Mountaineers will welcome the Timberwolves at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rainier has three straight victories, Morton/White Pass has 15 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Rainier made easy work of Morton/White Pass and carried off a 13-2 win. That's two games straight that the Mountaineers have won by exactly 11 runs.

Wyatt McIntyre and Peyton Sheaffer were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, McIntyre struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Sheaffer pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At bat, McIntyre went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Sheaffer got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave McIntyre a new career-high.

In other batting news, Rainier got a big performance out of Hunter Howell, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Cughan, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Rainier's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-10. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Morton/White Pass, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-15.
