Basketball Recap: St. Francis Comes Up Short

St. Francis has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-61 heartbreaker at the hands of the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs. The contest marked the Sharks' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

It was another big night for Nico Downie, who went 9 for 13 on his way to 22 points in addition to eight assists and five steals for Monte Vista Christian. The dominant performance gave Downie a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Matteo Vidal, who posted 12 points in addition to six boards and three blocks.

St. Francis' defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Monte Vista Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

St. Francis wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 84-63 victory against Pajaro Valley on the 23rd. As for Monte Vista Christian, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Rancho San Juan at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
