Baseball Game Preview: Lincolnwood Lancers vs. Carlinville Cavaliers

The Lincolnwood Lancers will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Carlinville Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses dating back to last season for Lincolnwood and nine for Carlinville dating back to last season.

On Monday, Lincolnwood came up short against Staunton and fell 9-5.

Drew Gilpin was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Gilpin was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Brody Lush and Jhude Walker did some serious damage despite the final result: Lush scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Walker scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Carlinville didn't have quite enough to beat Auburn on Monday and fell 5-4.

Carlinville also got a good showing from Dom Alepra, who didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Carlinville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Ronald, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Carlinville's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Lincolnwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Lincolnwood took their win against Carlinville in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 9-0. Does Lincolnwood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Carlinville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
