Softball Game Preview: Sickles Gryphons vs. Armwood Hawks

The Sickles Gryphons will square off against the Armwood Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sickles will be strutting in after a win while Armwood will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Sickles turned things around against Jefferson on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Dragons a 7-0 shutout. Considering the Gryphons have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Zoe Mello, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Jefferson off the board. The dominant performance gave Mello a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Briana Browder, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Locicero, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Armwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 20-4 to East Bay.

Cayla Davis was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Mya Ankers, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

Sickles' victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Armwood, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Everything went Sickles' way against Armwood in their previous meeting back in March of 2018, as Sickles made off with a 15-1 win. Does Sickles have another victory up their sleeve, or will Armwood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
