Softball Recap: Waldron Mohawks vs. South Decatur Cougars

Waldron extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-5 in the process. They lost 19-3 to the South Decatur Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-1 on Thursday.

Waldron saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexis Rogers, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Abigail Lockridge also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

As for South Decatur, their win ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-6. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four contests by 12 runs or more so far this season.

On South Decatur's side, Riley Benge was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Benge was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Raegan Benge was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Daisy Martin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Waldron is set to challenge their familiar foe North Decatur at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, South Decatur will take on rival Morristown at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
