Preview: Hi-Plains Patriots vs. Cheylin Cougars
Two dominant in Bex Seaman and Pablo Bermudez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hi-Plains Patriots's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Cheylin Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on January 19th. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Hi-Plains suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Stratton at home and fell 74-38. While losing is never fun, Hi-Plains can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while Stratton is ranked 86th).
Meanwhile, Cheylin fought the good fight in their overtime game against Southwest on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Roughriders 53-48. Cheylin's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Loss or not, Cheylin got some senior leadership from Bermudez and Logan McCarty. Bermudez scored 17 points along with seven steals, while McCarty. scored 15 points along with two steals. McCarty is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Victor Hernandez, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Hi-Plains has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season. As for Cheylin, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
