Basketball Recap: George Washington Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Denver South

On Thursday, George Washington faced Denver South in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The George Washington Patriots took a hard 66-48 fall against the Denver South Ravens. The contest marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the defeat, George Washington had strong showings from Haben Amanuel, who went 5-for-6 on his way to 10 points, and Jeremiah Trimm, who posted ten points and seven rebounds. Those ten points gave Amanuel a new career-high. Malachi Headrick was another key player, putting up eight points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Denver South to victory, but perhaps none more so than Christian Cobb, who went 5-for-6 en route to 12 points and six boards. Cobb is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Davis, who went 7-for-9 to rack up 15 points.

George Washington dropped their record down to 13-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Denver South, they, and Rangeview. As for Denver South, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-7.

George Washington didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 81-68 win against Northfield on the 21st. As for Denver South, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 70-54 defeat against Rangeview on the 22nd.
