Baseball Recap: Ridge Spring-Monetta Comes Up Short

Ridge Spring-Monetta extended their losing streak to 15 on Friday, dropping them down to 1-15. They lost 10-0 to the Wagener-Salley War Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the War Eagles this season, with their most recent loss being a 13-1 defeat on Tuesday.

As for Wagener-Salley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games.

For Wagener-Salley's part, not much got past Zach Crockett, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Ridge Spring-Monetta off the board. Crockett also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the War Eagles are 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Wagener-Salley let Robert Harrison and Ryan Toole run wild. Harrison went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Toole got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Toole continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Bobby Jackson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Ridge Spring-Monetta will face off against Saluda at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wagener-Salley, they will challenge Pelion at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
