Soccer Game Preview: Newton-Conover vs. Forbush

The Newton-Conover Red Devils will challenge the Forbush Falcons on Monday. Newton-Conover will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Newton-Conover is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand North Surry a 4-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for Newton-Conover, who have now won 13 matches by three goals or more so far this season.

They hit North Surry with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Anahi Villa (2), Ingrid Garcia, and Stella Phillips.

West Davidson typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Forbush proved too difficult a challenge. They skirted past the Dragons 2-1. The win was all the more spectacular given Forbush's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 225th, while West Davidson are ranked 91st).

Forbush is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 49 goals over those 15 contests. As for Newton-Conover, they pushed their record up to 18-5-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Newton-Conover came up short against Forbush in their previous matchup back in May of 2017, falling 3-1. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
