Baseball Recap: Griffith Has No Trouble Against Hammond Morton

Griffith had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Hammond Morton Governors 10-3. This was payback for the Panthers, who suffered a 5-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Jackson Davenport made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Jason Quillin was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Anthony Feliciano, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Having lost for the first time this season, Hammond Morton fell to 2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Griffith will challenge Hammond Central at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hammond Morton, they will take on Michigan City in a tournament on Friday.
