Football Game Preview: Center Roughriders vs. Rusk Eagles

The Center Roughriders are taking a road trip to take on the Rusk Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Center has given up an average of 32.1 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Center lost to Athens at home by a 44-26 margin. While losing is never fun, the Roughriders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 507th, while the Hornets are ranked 242nd).

Despite their defeat, Center saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jaysis Villegas, who rushed for 93 yards and one touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. Jeremy Bluford was in the mix as well, providing the Roughriders with two TDs.

Meanwhile, Rusk played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Carthage 56-3. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 56-0.

Center now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Rusk, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Center strolled past Rusk when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a score of 37-20. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Roughriders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
